Tapa cloth

This is a bark cloth art, often called as tapa cloth in many Pacific and Southeast Asian traditions.

The process usually involves:

  • Stripping and soaking the inner bark of certain trees ( like mulberry and fig trees ).
  • Pounding the bark into sheets.
  • Drying it.
  • Then painting or dyeing it with natural pigments.

This photo on top that I made isn’t drawn on bark. instead, it is drawn on paper. 😀

I’ll teach u how to make this beautiful art so that you can also make it at home.

  • step one first get a piece of paper of course :)step two draw ur draft using a pencil.
  • after you’re done with ur draft using your pencil, u can now start tracing your draft with a black pen.
  • Get some pastels. Start coloring them and the parts u want them to be white color it in white pastel or else is gonna turn out to be dyed.
  • Now get ready for some heartbreaking news, crush ur beautiful piece of artwork. 🙁 I know it’s annoying. X_X
  • After u crush it, spread it out carefully or in might rip. ‘_‘
  • now get some brown dye and paint it carefully it must be fully dyed, without any white spots.
  • now u’re just gonna sit and relax on your sofa and wait for it to dry. >:D ruhehehe ( it dries real fast tho)

I know easy right? Hehe >:)

here’s ur beautiful piece of artwork made with paper!
